This is the short crash course to get the BDE up and running. To find more details
you need to look at the two preceding sections..
We assume that the Oracle default driver settings are valid for the other parameters.
IF you have messed these up, you need to check them against the table in 'The BDE Oracle
Driver'.
REMEMBER to test whether the Oracle client software works OK. Start SQLPlus and log in as
'SCOTT/TIGER@youralias' where 'youralias' is defined in the TNS setup program. And put this
alias in the 'SERVER NAME' parameter below..
| Parameter | Setting | Remarks |
| VENDOR INIT | ORA72.DLL |
Set this according to the database version you're using:
ORANT71.DLL for Ver. 7.1
ORA72.DLL for Ver. 7.2
ORA73.DLL for Ver. 7.3
and remember to point to the Oracle home directory in your PATH, usually something
like C:\ORAWIN95\BIN
|
| LANGDRIVER | 'WEurope' ANSI |
This should match what the Database is set to |
| NET PROTOCOL | |
Leave blank only for Personal Oracle, otherwise choose TNS |
| SERVER NAME | 2: |
Set to '2:' for Personal Oracle, otherwise set to a valid TNS alias |
| SQLQRYMODE | SERVER |
This ensures that Oracle parses SQL statements directly, otherwise the BDE
interprets them first, and produces errors if you use features specific to Oracle |
| USER NAME | scott |
Whatever.. |
