| Delphi32.com server side problem resolved |

February 26th, 1999 In the beggining of February we moved delphi32.com to a better provider. Purpose of this move was to have faster connection, and a different Web Server. Earlier delphi32.com was running on a unix server runnin Apache (web server). We were wanting to use some features (Server side scripting using ASP) available on WinNT - IIS (Internet Information Server) combination. Now the dilema was that the existing site was using Server Side Includes, as well as running a a few CGI's that would run only on unix. To use server side includes and and asp features the file name extenstion has to be .asp on IIS while a filename with .html extension has the server side includes on Apache. We had two options, one was to change all the file extension, resulting in hundreds of broken links locally as well as globally. Another option that we considerd was to parse the .html files using asp.dll so that they are processed as asp files allowing us to use all the features available in ASP. No doubt we decided to go with the second option of parsing the .html files with asp.dll by making some additions in the server configuration. Very soon we realized that we have made a mistake. Due to some memory leak in asp.dll delphi32.com would lock up every few hours. After, a few hours of stressfull trouble shooting, I found a solution to this problem. I tried to parse .html files with ssinc.dll. This worked and I was able to use the server side includes and to use asp features I executed asp scripts from within the .html files. Finally, after testing this change I asked our ISP to make this change. Once they made this change, the site was back up and running within no time!
